    Evolution of Indian Education

India has always been a center of learning and education right from ancient and medieval era. Indian education was well developed in all areas be it science, art or business.

The Guru Shishya tradition and the values that formed the basis of education eons ago still have the influence and education in India is still very profound and wholesome bringing out the best in the student’s understanding and development. The varied cultural influence be it Oriental, Mughal or British has enriched the persona of education in India. We have some of the oldest knowledge resources and the most modern research existing together which is a great advantage for any student as it gives them a very varied and different perspective. Where in the word you can learn the best of every culture? Its here in India.

The Vedic-Aryan, Buddhist, Chinese, Arab and Mughal influence all of them contributed to Indian education in all areas be it science, arts, sociology, warfare or business management. However much of the present day industrial influence and education is the heritage of British rule in India.

Until 1800 AD under the BRITISH RAJ, more educational emphasis was on Arts and Humanities. No major developments happened in technical and science related studies, not to forget commercial studies weren't either developed. It was in 1899 that India’s first separate and specialist degrees in science, rendered by University of Bombay and University of Calcutta.

But, still India was lagging behind in the education related to science and technology. Nevertheless, the royal families continued to extensively encourage the science and technical education. In 1909 renowned businessman and philanthropist Mr. JAMSHEDJI TATA established the INDIAN INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE, to promote and fill the deficit of the need of technical education. Still in the 1930’s only 10 institutes providing technical education were present. But with Second World War, there rose a need for technicians in war and thus the higher technical education was initiated in India.

Besides engineers, war times also call for medical services, thus Medical Institutions were developed. The Madras Medical College opened in 1875, and by 1894, the Women's Christian Medical College, an exclusive medical school for women, was established in Ludhiana of Punjab, imparting medical education to women so that they could treat the female population who traditionally shied away from medical treatments under qualified male professionals.

But the true revolution in Indian education came after Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru became the first prime minister. As his focus was industrial and economic growth Indian youth of those times rose up and gave their best and created the new India with their talent, skills and sheer hard work.

It was after we gained freedom that the Indian masses had access to good education and yet it was only present in the developed urban settlements however larger parts of India was still rural and not involved in new wave of change through education.

Today as globalization is happening we are again at a curve where Indian youth has to rise again and take their country to another level and this time we have the best of the resources to make that happen. We are much more strengthened now and well synergized as a country despite all the upheavals.

At EnterMBA, we envision that every student be it in management or in any other discipline should strive to do their best, as a student you should gain maximum from the education we have and create a bright future for yourself and for our country.

    MBA Education in India

MBA Education in India started in the year 1961 when IIM Calcutta was established in co-operation with MIT SLOAN Business school of Massachusetts, USA. This was followed by establishment of IIM Ahmedabad and the rest is history. IIM today is the highest management institution in India and also the oldest and is thus regarded as the dream destination for every MBA aspirant.

However for those who cannot get to IIMs, many other institutions are there which offer high quality management education. Currently there are more than 1600 management schools in India offering various MBA programs.

Both fresh graduates and professionals from different industries apply for these institutions in order to get their MBA degree which is now being looked as a ‘Must Have’ on your CV. Indeed it is a must have because management studies do give in depth knowledge and practical know how of how to manage different areas of work.

    Admission requirements:
Admission to any of the IIM schools requires passing Common Admission Test (CAT). Other business schools requires you to clear either CAT, XATGMATJMET, MAT or other exams, each of which qualifies you for entrance into any management institution in India.

Besides the entrance tests some business schools like FMS, MICA, and IBS Hyderabad etc. also conduct aptitude test individually which is mandatory to qualify for admission.

    Type of MBA Programs

There are various forms of MBA Programs :

    • Post-graduate diploma in management (PGDM)
    • Post Graduate Program in Management (PGPM)
    • MBA Degree
    • PGDM and PGPM are offered by IIM and other autonomous business schools  (It is recognized as similar to an MBA degree)
    • MBA Degree program is offered only by university-affiliated colleges.

However the curriculum of the PGDM or PGPM and MBA degree program is similar.

The MBA degree is examination oriented and concentrates on theoretical aspects of management whereas the PGDM or PGPM is industry-oriented. And that is why more students aspire to join such institutions where the programs are not purely theoretical but industry oriented.

But a point to notice here is that if you wish to pursue Management as academic studies then take note that a PGDM or PGPM holder cannot pursue Ph.D. since it is not a recognized Master’s degree. So if you wish to teach management or do research in management studies a Master’s Degree program would be more suitable.

While not many MBA aspirants are aware of this option, it is a very lucrative field especially if you like to teach and do research. With so many management institutions coming up, the demand for Management faculties will also be on the rising.

    Education Loan Guide

Unlike earlier times when families had to strive hard to afford education, Education Loan also known as Student Loan has now become a very accessible resource for students from every class of society.

Getting higher education has never been easy however in today’s time if we have more revenue sources we have equal expenses as well. Thus the aspiration to get a degree from a good institution has to be backed by a strong financial planning as well.

Those students who have lack of funds and want to pursue good education can get such education loans based on their merit and can easily repay once they start working. The payback policies are quite flexible and the students can study without worrying of a financial debt. Almost every public and private sector bank offers education loan and the process is also not very complicated or time consuming. As inflation is rising the education costs are also getting higher however education loan has become a good solution offering respite to student’s and their families.

What has accelerated the Education Loan trend is the high fees model of the self financed institutions. However considering the limited seats in government or public institutions many students prefer self financed institutions and do not mind taking a loan and repaying it as they are assured of their stable career with right qualification.

Many students are apprehensive about taking an education loan however there is almost no reason to feel threatened by education loan. Millions of students take up higher education only because they have the facility of the loan. The banks and financial institutions are providing good schemes and benefits and with good merit and qualification the students can easily get a loan and repay it as well. It’s not too much to get an education that will serve you for lifetime.
