MDI Murshidabad launched first MDP; inaugurated by FM Pranab Mukherjee
MDI Murshidabad, the second campus of Management Development Institute Gurgaon promoted by IFC, which was inaugurated on October 2010, has launched its first Management Development Program (MDP). The program was inaugurated by Mr. Pranab Mukherjee, Union Minister of Finance, Government of India at Kolkata, West Bengal. The MDP is titled ‘Economic Development of Eastern and North-Eastern states: The Role of Banks in Regional Development’.
The focus of the MDP is on impact of banking and credit penetration in regional economic development of Eastern and North-Eastern states, the policy challenges and broader microeconomic policy directions, special recruitments of Eastern and North-Eastern states and the role of micro financing institutes and Enhancing the Business Correspondent Model in financial inclusion of bringing the poor and underprivileged section of society within the banking fold and thereby generating and sustaining equitable growth.
MDI Murshidabad mentions the objectives of the MDP, which are to understand the role of balanced regional development in economic prosperity, understand the role of Lead Bank Scheme in regional development, understand the challenges and opportunities in micro-financing and understand the significance of Business Correspondent Model in Financial Inclusion.
Inaugurating the MDP, Mr. Mukherjee said, “You cannot spoon-feed a region through Central or State sponsorship. It has to come up through the development of a skilled work force and managerial inputs.”
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Atul Kumar Rai, Chairman, Management Development Institute and CEO & MD, IFCI said, “MDI, Murshidabad with the inauguration of the Management Development Program by Honorable Finance Minister assumes a form and reality which would encourage the concretization of the campus and full fledged activity at Murshidabad speedily.”
MDI Gurgaon is one of the prominent B-schools in India, launched in 1973. The B-School is internationally recognized and is ranked among the top 10 B-schools in India. It is the first B-School to be accredited by Association of MBA (AMBA) and by South Asian Quality Standards (SAQS).
