SIBM Bangalore welcomes new batches of Executive-MBA, PGDM programs

SIBM Bangalore organized inauguration function of the incoming batches of 2011-14 Executive-MBA and 2011-12 PGDM programs.

The inaugural function was attended by the various luminaries from the world of academia and business including Mr. Thomas Olsson, Country Head - Operations, Volvo; Mr. Sanjay Bokadia, Chief Financial Officer, Fortis Hospitals; Mr. C. Mahalingam, Executive VP and Chief People Officer, Symphony Services Corporation; Dr. Pallab Bandhopadhyay, Director HR, Citrix Systems; Mr. Jagdish Kini, Managing Partner and Director, Enterprise 5C; and Dr. Papiya Banerji, Deputy Director, SIBM Bangalore.

The event was opened with a heartwarming performance by the students of Shishu Mandir, followed by the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries present – a tradition followed across the Symbiosis family. Dr. Papiya Banerji in her welcome speech urged the students to invest in knowledge and self-development in the forthcoming academic life, and invited the chief guest Mr. Thomas Olsson to take the dais. Mr. Olsson started by sharing his belief that learning is an experience. He stressed on the importance of networking in professional life and also elaborated on the necessary symbiotic relationship between the industry and students so that the students learn about industry culture and companies learn about the mindsets of young future managers.

After Mr. Olsson's address, Mr. Sanjay Bokadia informed the new set of students to attain the right knowledge – which doesn't mean knowing everything, but having an expertise in their area of work. He asked the students to be receptive to their surroundings, and generate a high level of confidence.

Later, Mr. Jagdish Kini took the dais and felicitated Mr. Mahalingam and Dr. Pallab Bandhopadhyay on behalf of SIBM Bangalore.

Mr. Mahalingam accepted the honour with humility and conveyed that despite all the accolades being bestowed on him, he still is a student of HR. He predicted that HR managers will be the leaders of tomorrow, and shared some invaluable experiences from his three decades old professional life. Dr. Pallab Bandhopadhyay elucidated that leadership is about the combination of "Buddhi" – intellect and "Bhakti" – devotion. He accepted that aspirations drive human beings to achieve, but conveyed that everyone must instead let their competencies drive them. He closed the event by resonating Mr. Jagdish Kini's message that 'SIBM Bangalore has now arrived, and will compete against the very best!'
