GU and GTU authorities at loggerheads over MBA admissions
Gujarat :
Authorities of Gujarat University and Gujarat Technical University(GTU) may be on a collision course, following a row over the issue of admissions to the MBA courses.
Till now Gujarat Common Entrance Test Committee(GCET) comprising members from the GTU had been involved with the process. However a recent advertisement by GU, with regard to admissions for the MBA courses, has put the two authorities of two institutes at the loggerheads.
Claiming that no other university, could conduct the admissions for these courses on its own, the GTU authorities have decided to give a notice to GU Vice Chancellor Parimal Trivedi over the issue.
ADMISSIONS THROUGH GCET
“The admissions for courses like MBA are to be done through the GCET committee. Gujarat University or any other university can not initiate the process on its own. We have already taken up the issue with the GUauthorities. A draft of notice has also been prepared and is with the VC Akhsai Aggarwal. It will soon be served to Gujarat University soon,’’ said incharge registrar GTU, Dr G T Vadodaria.
DEFIANT GU VC
Recently, the Gujarat University had given an advertisement for admission in various courses of MBA, including courses in logistic management, port management, creative science and a few other management courses.
When contacted GU vice-chancellor Parimal Trivedi however maintained that the university could go ahead with the admissions.
“As per Supreme Court directions any university can run any course without the permission from the body.
“For MBA courses, we do not need permission from GCET. If they don’t cooperate, we will manage the process on our own,”he said.
On the other hand, some officials in GTU claimed that Trivedi had had agreed that the university would go by the provisions and process of admission and had no objections.
