More Students can proclaim "I I M" - Seats Increased for IIM Aspirants

New IIMs add about 500 seats; odds improve for CAT aspirants ; Creating  A 'Win-Win' Situation

More the merrier is the mantra for the MBA aspirants when it comes to the number of IIMs. The prestigious institute is the aim for every MBA aspirant to get in. Since the last two years, India has seen the launch of six new IIMs which has raised the hope even more amongst the MBA aspirants. The year 2010 saw the inception of three new IIM Rs, IIM Ranchi, Rohtak and Raipur. The present academic year has seen the launch of three more IIMs in Trichy, Udaipur and Kashipur.

The nascent IIMs start with a reasonably less number of seats which increases from the subsequent years. The reason being, in the initial years, the physical and intellectual infrastructure is not competent enough to accommodate the batch of large number of students. But with the increasing number of seats, you can be assured that if you are really worth it, you will get it.

Let us have a look at the number of seats which have increased from the past academic year.

IIM Ranchi started the first batch with 44 students in the academic year 2010-12 in the temporary campus of Soochna Bhavan, Ranchi. In the present academic year, 2011-13, the number of seats of IIM Ranchi has rose to 69. IIM Rohtak started with 50 students in the year 2010. But the year 2011 saw the number doubling to 124. As Dr. P Rameshan, Director of IIM Rohtak had said earlier to MBAUniverse.com, “We are planning to increase the student intake from 50 to 120 or 130.” IIM Raipur, the other new IIM which was launched in the year 2010 saw the induction with 71 students, which is highest among the three new IIMs. But it did not see much increase in the current batch of MBA, which as the number of students admitted in the 2011-13 batch is likely to be 70. The IIMs which have started functioning from this year are IIM Trichy, IIM Kashipur and IIM Udaipur. IIM Trichy inaugurated the pioneering batch with 88 students. Mentored by IIM Bangalore, this new IIM in South India has started functioning from the NIT Trichy campus. The Director of the institute is Dr. Prafulla Agnihotri. IIM Kashipur is the second IIM mentored by IIM Lucknow, the first being IIM Rohtak. IIM Kashipur will start the first batch with 60 students. IIM Kashipur will start operating from the temporary campus located at Ganna Sansthan, Bazpur Road Kashipur. Approximately 200 acres of land in the Escorts Farm area of Kashipur, Uttarakhand have been allocated by the Government of Uttarakhand for the institutes new Campus. Prof. Raghavan Srinivasan from IIM Bangalore has been appointed as the Director of IIM Kashipur. The first batch was inducted on July 1, 2011. The first batch of IIM Udaipur, the institute mentored by IIM Indore apart from IIM Raipur will be commenced from July 11, 2011. The first will have 72 students. Prof. Janat Shah of IIM Bangalore has been appointed as the Director of IIM Udaipur. The institute will start functioning from the temporary campus of Polymer Science Building, Mohanlal Sukhadia University (MLSU), Udaipur, Rajasthan. The construction of the permanent campus has started at approximately 253 acres of land in Balicha area, of Udaipur, Rajasthan which have been allocated by the Government of Rajasthan for the institute's new campus. These six new IIMs offer you approximately 500 seats. With the trend of the one year old IIMs, it can be assumed that the number of seats will even rise in the coming academic years. So if you are preparing seriously, chances will get stronger for you to crack the seat of IIMs, out of the total 13 campuses for the year 2012-14.
